Your keyboard no longer responds? Want to use a new device? For various reasons, uninstalling the keyboard from your computer is sometimes a necessity.
However, this is not a common manipulation, it is even more difficult than it seems. In this tutorial, we show you how to permanently deactivate your keyboard.
Temporarily disable your laptop keyboard
To temporarily make your keyboard inactive, the first solution is to go through your PC’s device manager. To do this:
- Go to Start.
- Search for Device Manager.
- Open it, go to Keyboards.
- Select yours and right-click on it.
- Click on Uninstall.
Your keyboard will then remain off until you restart your PC.

Disable your laptop keyboard permanently
To remove your keyboard permanently, you will first need to prevent Windows from automatically installing the driver. To do this:
- In your PC’s dialog box, type gpedit.msc.
- A window appears, click User Configuration , then Administrative Templates → Windows Components → Device Installation.
- Then go to Device Installation Restrictions.
- Right-click on Prevent installation of devices not described by other driver settings.
- Activate the option.
Once you have completed these 5 steps, here is what you have to do:
- Turn on Start and then Manager of peripherals.
- Open it, go to Keyboards.
- Select yours and right click on it.
- Click on Uninstall.
