Face ID: how to unlock iPhone with Apple Watch?
For several months, we have been forced to wear a mask in public places, which becomes complicated when you want to use Face ID to unlock your iPhone. Indeed, this facial recognition system and the mask do not mix. This problem is the same for all iOS users and owners of a model later than the X, that is, without Touch ID technology.
To overcome this limitation, you can always use an access code. However, if you don’t want to have to type it every time, then follow our solution (below) which we think is more practical, provided you have an Apple Watch.
This is an unlocking process offered on the latest version of iOS 14.5, currently in beta testing, before it officially releases in March, or early April. If you want to try it out now, then join Apple’s public program.
Once installed, read on to learn how to unlock your iOS using your Apple smartwatch.
Unlock your iPhone with your Apple Watch
For this feature to work, your Apple Watch must be running watchOS 7.4. It will also need to be on your wrist, unlocked and its detection activated.
Also, an access code will have to be configured on your iOS. If not, then go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Activate Passcode.
To access your iPhone through your Apple Watch, activate the Unlock with Apple Watch feature on your iPhone. For it:
- Open Settings
- Go to Face ID and code
- Choose Unlock with Apple Watch
Now your iOS will automatically unlock and your Apple Watch will notify you with a haptic notification.
